Read the set of related affirmations below aloud. It’s important to your conscious and subconscious mind to hear the affirmations said in your own voice. Choose one or two of the affirmations from the set to start working with. You only need one or two affirmations, used consistently, to make a substantial change in your life.

Choose one affirmation that feels easy to you and choose another that generates resistance or disbelief. The idea is to practice extending your current self-imposed limits and encourage growth.

Say your chosen affirmation loud enough for your mind to hear your voice saying the words and take notice of how you feel as you begin and as you continue your practice. Repeat your chosen affirmation multiple times a day for at least 30 days and reinforce your affirmation by writing it in your journal.

You can change your life by beginning an affirmation practice – using one or two favorite affirmations over the course of 30 to 60 days can permanently change your mindset and your life.

Reclaiming your status as a strong, self-determined individual is an important – even critical – part of leaning into and living into becoming your best self. The word victim is defined as someone or something that is harmed by an unpleasant event (such as an illness or accident). This definition implies trauma – and recognizing that you’ve been subjected to / exposed to trauma is one of the steps toward healing.

Unpleasant events and situations will occur in our lives – as perfectly imperfect human beings, we don’t have 100% control of our environment. We don’t control what influences other people bring into our circle or our immediate environment, and not having that control can affect how we see the world.

Because we don’t control EVERY aspect of our world doesn’t mean that we have no power in any given situation. Don’t give away your power that easily. While you cannot control others, you DO have the ability to control your reactions to what happens around you.

The affirmations in this group will help you to expand your awareness of victim-related thinking and empower you to move beyond victim thinking and the related emotions. Getting started in reclaiming your inherent worth and dignity, expanding and leveraging your strengths, and increasing your confidence can be as simple as choosing one or two of the affirmations in this list to establish or boost your affirmation practice over the next 30 to 60 days.

If you’ve felt like a victim in the past or can choose times in your current life that you’ve considered yourself a victim, think about what situations or people cause you to feel this way. This is a great subject to journal about – recognizing what causes you to feel like a victim can help show you what you’ll want to prepare for or plan a workaround to boost your future mental and emotional health.

You do NOT have to remain in the ‘victim state’ – you have the power to change your mindset, alter your emotions, and build the strength you need to step out of the ‘victim state’ and live a healthier life.

Affirmations to Decline the ‘Victim State’

I am not defined by a situation, I am bigger than that.

I am not a victim, I am a survivor.

I am not chained to my pain, I am bigger than that.

I am not broken, I am being mended together stronger than before.

After everything I have been through, I can still love.

I am whatever I choose to become.

I am not tethered to my past, I am creating my future.

My story is not one of hurt, but one of healing.

I do not have to wait for what I want, I can make it happen for myself.

I am not bitter, I am better because I choose healing and growth.

While I may have suffered quietly before, I am now choosing to heal.

I can wear my scars with pride because I have been reborn.

I may have met rock bottom, but I am soaring high now.

I control my words, thoughts, and life.

I deserve the support and love that I need to heal.

I am in control and I am enough.

My courage is greater than my hurt.

I have the power to create the life I deserve to live.

I am bigger than any challenge life can throw at me.

I have survived my past and I can handle anything life holds for me.
