Read the set of related affirmations below aloud. It’s important to your conscious and subconscious mind to hear the affirmations said in your own voice. Choose one or two of the affirmations from the set to start working with. You only need one or two affirmations, used consistently, to make a substantial change in your life.

Choose one affirmation that feels easy to you and choose another that generates resistance or disbelief. The idea is to practice extending your current self-imposed limits and encourage growth.

Say your chosen affirmation loud enough for your mind to hear your voice saying the words and take notice of how you feel as you begin and as you continue your practice. Repeat your chosen affirmation multiple times a day for at least 30 days and reinforce your affirmation by writing it in your journal.

You can change your life by beginning an affirmation practice – using one or two favorite affirmations over the course of 30 to 60 days can permanently change your mindset and your life.

Let me say this first – I am not a mental health professional, and these affirmations, with my directions on how to put them to work in your life, should not be construed as therapy. I have seen the power of Affirmations in my own life to empower me to make positive and lasting changes, and that is the reason why I share them.

The American Psychiatric Association definition of depression:

Depression (major depressive disorder) is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act.

American Psychiatric Association

The negative affect depression has on your feelings, your thinking, and your actions can send you down a path that does you absolutely NO GOOD. Catching yourself as you BEGIN on that path is important because you can halt the progression before it gets too bad.

Lest you think that once you’re on the path, it’s too late…HOLD UP RIGHT THERE. Things can always get BETTER. Taking immediate and consistent action to change the direction of your feelings, your thoughts, and your actions is the way out. An action doesn’t have to be big, huge, or take days or weeks to be life-altering. Starting an affirmation practice can happen for you within the next 15 minutes, and it can take just about that same amount of time each day. The key is to be consistent and to be authentic. When you begin your affirmation practice, you might not FEEL it 100%, but I believe so strongly that we can speak our new, desired reality into existence.

Words have been used to harm for centuries. They’ve also been used to help, empower and heal. Your own voice is SO powerful on your path to self-knowledge and self-empowerment. Take the next 30 days and try this: read through the affirmations in this post, saying each one aloud. Notice which ones cause a reaction in your body and your spirit – write them down. Once you’ve read through all of the affirmations, choose one or two to begin your practice, and then get started.

Affirmations to help with Healing Depression

I am surrounded by compassion, support, and love.

I am loved by my family and friends.

My friendship is important, and my friends value it.

I don’t have to feel guilty about my depression, this isn’t my fault.

I, and my life, have meaning and value.

The life I live is one worth living.

This will pass, I’m going to breathe through it.

I am capable of positivity, I am capable of contentment, and I can feel positive.

This depression will not define me.

I am cherished.

I don’t have to do anything, be anyone, or act a certain way to be loved.

I know I am needed, even though it’s difficult to see my worth right now.

I am so proud of myself for making it through today.

I can overcome this and make a good day.

I am where I should be.

I deserve health, I deserve peace, I deserve love.

I offer myself unconditional love.

I can make a new beginning and I’m in the process of positive change.

I let go of pain, sorrow, and guilt and choose to love myself.

I choose how I feel today. Today I choose love and peace.
